NOW ACCEPTING COSPONSORSHIPS

DESCRIPTION: On June 14, 2022, City Council passed and the Mayor signed a Certified Ordinance stating that the City of Rochester shall recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day on the Second Monday in October, and that Indigenous Peoples’ Day shall replace Columbus Day on all documents and calendars. In celebration of this momentous event, in this our second year, the Indigenous Peoples’ Day committee has planned a variety of activities that encourage understanding and appreciation of Indigenous Peoples and their traditions and culture all across Turtle Island, thus promoting the well-being and growth of the Rochester Indigenous communities. Indigenous Peoples’ Day gives our greater community an opportunity to reflect upon the ongoing struggles of Indigenous peoples on this land, and to celebrate the thriving culture and value that Onöndowága:’ (Seneca) and other Indigenous nations add to the City of Rochester. We are inviting your organization/business to be a part of these exciting events.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY COMMITTEE: This sponsoring organization is a multicultural group of individuals and organizations who strategize and organize to recognize the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the City of Rochester. We continue our efforts to promote the well-being and growth of the Rochester Native American community in addition to all other ethnic cultural traditions including Italian Americans and reflect upon the ongoing struggles of all historically excluded groups in our community. In addition, we celebrate the thriving culture and values of Indigenous Peoples in partnership with others in the City of Rochester.

COSPONSORS WILL:

● Be listed as co-sponsors in publicity

● Give financial support and/or in-kind contributions (This should not be a barrier to your group signing on. It can be what your group can afford and/or offer to make this event happen.) We are not yet a 501c 3 but do have a fiscal sponsor.

● Be provided an opportunity to put your organization’s info on a resource table

● If you are a business i.e. restaurant and you provide food for the event we can put your menu and contact info by your donation
